Eligibility

QI want to apply to the Graduate School of Business IT. What are the eligibility requirements?
AThe eligibility for our master's and doctoral programs requires having a bachelor's or master's degree from a domestic or overseas regular university or having an equivalent or higher level of education recognized.
QCan I apply to a different major than my undergraduate or master`s degree?
AYou can apply regardless of your undergraduate/master's major.
QIs it possible to apply to multiple graduate programs simultaneously?
AYou can apply to both the general graduate school and other graduate programs at Kookmin University simultaneously, but you cannot apply to multiple departments within the Graduate School of Business IT.




Admissions Process

QWhen do you recruit new students?
AWe recruit in November for the spring semester and in June for the fall semester.
QWhat is the difference between the spring and fall admissions? I am curious if there is a difference in the competition rate as well.
AThere is no significant difference between spring and fall admissions, and the competition rate varies depending on the number of applicants and available spots.
QHow many students are selected for each major?
AThe number of students selected for each major is decided by the management committee.
QHow do I submit my application?
AYou can fill out the application online during the recruitment period and then submit it in person or by mail to the graduate school's academic affairs team.
QCan I submit documents that were issued previously when applying?
AAll certificates must be issued within the last 6 months, and if there are any issues such as inability to verify, you must resubmit. Certificates issued online must be within the last 3 months due to original verification and validity period issues.
QWhat should I write in the personal statement on the application form?
AIn your personal statement, you should focus on your career, activities, or experiences related to the graduate school's major, or on your undergraduate major. If unrelated to the graduate school's major, you can write in a free format.
QHow should I prepare for the interview?
AThe interview evaluates comprehensive aspects such as knowledge of the major, readiness for graduate study, aptitude, and attitude.
QIs there a written exam or English test?
AThe admission process consists only of document review and interviews.
QIs an official English proficiency score necessary?
AYou do not need to submit an official English proficiency score upon admission.
QWhat is the competition rate for admission?
AIt varies based on the number of applicants and available spots.
QAre there students who enter the graduate school immediately after completing their undergraduate degree? Is it possible to be accepted without any work experience?
AFor the master's program, about 60% to 70% of students enter directly after completing their undergraduate degree.




Classes and Curriculum

QIs it possible to obtain a master`s degree within two years with only weekend classes?
A
There are two ways to graduate from the master's program:
1. Complete 24 credits and submit a graduation thesis (including 3 credits for research ethics and master's thesis research).
2. Complete over 33 credits and pass the graduation examination.
QWhen are the classes held, and how many subjects can I take per semester?
AClasses are usually held from 19:00 to 22:00 on weekdays and from 9:00 to 18:00 on Saturdays. You can take up to 12 credits (4 subjects) per semester.
QI\'m not a major in IT. Can I keep up with the graduate school classes?
AThe graduate curriculum is structured from basic to advanced classes, so non-majors can also take them.
QDo I need to be proficient in programming to complete the Business Analytics track?
ABasic knowledge of programming tools (R, Python, SPSS) is helpful, but you can complete the track through theory and practical classes.
QI want to study in advance before entering the graduate school. What should I study?
AIt would be helpful to study the basic subjects of the track you want to complete and programming tools in advance.
QI want to know the level of major classes. Are there any lectures available to the public?

Graduate School

QWhat is the difference between a professional graduate school and a general graduate school?
AA professional graduate school aims to nurture professionals with specialized skills, focusing on applying and utilizing researched academic fields in practice. The Graduate School of Business IT was accredited as a "professional graduate school" by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Korea in August 2001.
QWhat are the undergraduate majors of graduate students?
AThe distribution is 34% in business economics, 11% in management information systems, 29% in engineering, and 26% in other fields (based on a 5-year survey of graduates).
QWhat are the career backgrounds of graduate students?
AAbout 40% of graduate students have work experience.
QWhat is the age distribution of graduate students?
AThe majority of graduate students are in their 20s and 30s.
QWhat is the gender ratio of graduate students?
AThe gender ratio of graduate students is approximately 8:2, male to female.
QI look forward to meeting various professionals currently in the field as well as studying. Do many people related to the major enroll?
AMost students are engaged in work related to their major.
QAfter graduation, what companies do students work for?
AStudents and graduates of our Kookmin University Business IT Graduate School are actively working in IT, finance, consulting, and other fields both domestically and internationally.




Laboratories and Advisors

QI heard that lab life is important in graduate school. Is there a difference between full-time and part-time students in lab life?
AGraduate student lab spaces are primarily allocated to full-time students. Otherwise, there's little difference in lab life between full-time and part-time students.
QI want to join a lab. How can I do that?
AYou can join a lab through an interview with an advisor.
QDo I need to meet with an advisor or a department professor before entering the graduate school?
AMost students enter without prior contact, which is not mandatory. However, you may inquire beforehand if you have questions or are interested in a specific lab.
QHow do I contact a professor or a desired lab before admission?
AYou can inquire through contact information (e.g., email) listed under "Faculty" on the graduate school website.
QHow are advisors assigned?
AAdvisors are assigned in principle at the beginning of the second semester, through prior consultation with a professor.




Academic Administration

QWhat is the difference between completing and graduating?
AGraduation requires fulfilling all graduation requirements specified by the university regulations, whereas completion means earning the required credits but failing to pass the foreign language exam, comprehensive exam, or thesis/research presentation. A certificate of completion is issued to completers, and a diploma is issued to graduates.
QHow long can I take a leave of absence during my study at the graduate school?
AGraduate students can take a leave of absence for up to 2 years (4 semesters) consecutively and not exceed 3 years (6 semesters) in total. After that, you must return to school. Leaves of absence for military service, pregnancy, childbirth, and childcare are exceptions.
QHow do I write a research proposal?
AYou will write a research proposal for your graduation thesis in the third semester. Briefly describe the title and content of the research you plan to conduct and submit it.
