The term “e-Government” means a government that efficiently performs administrative affairs between administrative agencies and public institutions for citizens by digitalising administrative affairs of administrative agencies, etc. using information technology.

Recently, the Korean e-Government received the honour of securing the No. 1 ranking 3 times in the survey conducted by the UN every two years. Korea has spread the world’s best e-Government at the global stage and is promoting the Government 3.0 initiative (openness, sharing, communication, and cooperation) that enables broader public access to government data.

Thus, the Graduate School of Business Information Technology at Kookmin University established the Department of e-Government in 2014, aiming at educating professionals in the business aspect of e-Government (e-Government consulting concentration) as well as specialists for development and maintenance of the next-generation e-Government system (e-Government system development concentration).

Now Korea is preparing for leap to a smart government, which is the next generation e-Government, being equipped with the international competitiveness through the global standardization of the Korean e-Government technologies. To realize this, it is necessary to build a competent e-Government talent that will plan the next-generation e-Government, standardize e-Government service, and implement the standardized, open software based, and global e-Government system. Thus, the Graduate School of Business Information Technology at Kookmin University established the Department of e-Government in 2014, aiming at building creative software talent through the education of professionals in the business aspect of e-Government (e-Government consulting major) as well as specialists for development and maintenance of the next-generation e-Government system (e-Government system development major).
